Physician Attitude Survey Methodology The process for completing a comprehensive physician attitude survey is customized based on the institution's needs and goals, and generally includes: 1. An initial interview process of 2. Development of a questionnaire formulated specifically for your hospital based upon the emphasized areas learned from the interview process as well as general questions added by as a result of twelve years of experience developing these questionnaires. 3. Mailing the questionnaire, either electronically or hard-copy, to all members of the medical staff. 4. Monitoring the returns and sending follow-up letters to ensure an acceptable return rate. Concurrently, completing an analysis of current physician admissions patterns including an analysis both of the financial impact and the DRG impact of each physician on staff. 5. Tabulating the results of the questionnaire. 6. Developing the list of questions to be utilized during the interview process as well as the selection of the physicians to be interviewed. Also, if appropriate, developing a management plan to correct problems identified by the physicians which the administration agrees are easily corrected. 7. One-on-one interviews with previously identified medical staff. 8. Preparing and presenting a final report. Cost: The cost of a comprehensive study varies with the number of physicians on the medical staff and the number the hospital wishes to be interviewed. A basic written questionnaire/personal interview package* for a 200-300 bed hospital would be expected to include 10-15 preliminary interviews, 60-120 completed questionnaires, and 30 personal physician interviews. A study involving written questionnaires without the personal interviews is significantly less costly, though not as accurate.
